GENUS 394Wz is a poetic sci-fi allegory presented as a visually and musically rich hybrid puppet theatre–film production. Performed live by Wendy Passmore-Godfrey and featuring video performances by eight Calgary actors, the work traces the evolution of the species within the imagined Genus 394Wz, and humanity’s changing relationship with them across deep time.
Guided by Aanigma, a timeless narrator inhabiting borrowed bodies, this part parable, part prophecy, visually compelling work explores autonomy, power, empathy and the consequences of our choices. What happens when one being claims the freedom of another? And what echoes will our actions leave for the future?
