“Introducing Shadow Puppets” for grades k-2
Students will perform a shadow puppet presentation of My Many Coloured Days, with music, backgrounds and provided puppets. They will further be able to create their own puppets and/or create their own percussion based music to go with the story.
Primary Learning Objectives:
- Experiment with the properties of light and shadows.
- Learn the basic principles of shadow puppetry
- Identify different feelings
- Realize that feelings can be expressed in many ways – through music, colour, movement, language, shape and line.
- Understand that sharing and cooperation are needed to present a performance.
Secondary Learning Objectives:
- Learn about shadow puppetry traditions from different cultures.
- Learn how to make shadow puppets with colour, texture, transparency, opaque.
- Create new stories based on My Many Coloured Days
- Experiment with making music to reflect the different feelings in the story.
