WPTS has worked in the city of Calgary since 1976.
Wendy and Peter, sister and brother, presented "The
Magician's Mistake" at birthday parties and "Macbeth"
on other occasions. Years later in 1991 WPTS incorporated
as a charitable not-for-profit society.
Since that time, our work in the Calgary community
has engaged tens of thousands of children and adults.
The following are just a few examples of our community
involvement.
- We have delivered workshops for Sparks groups,
Boys and Girls clubs, and church Sunday schools.
- Through our productions, we have raised awareness
regarding the Amazon Rainforest, the plight of the
Giant Pandas, the wonder of the space travel, the
whimsy of poetry, and the multicultural richness
of folk tales. In all, we have created over 20 original
puppet theatre works.
- We have volunteered at Career Information sessions
for youth and at the Children's Hospital.
- We have taught countless teachers the 'tricks
of our trade' and have shown them how to integrate
puppetry into their core curriculum teaching.
- We have served as cultural ambassadors for Calgary
internationally in Mexico, Bulgaria, Australia,
South Korea, and the USA and nationally in Yukon,
NWT, Ontario and the Western provinces
- We have performed with the Calgary Philharmonic
Orchestra, and have done shows at the Calgary International
Children's Festival and the Fireman's Christmas
Party.
- We have repaired puppets for the Calgary Police
Department and have constructed them for the Child
Witness Preparation Program.
- We produce the Puppet Power seminar series to
assist 'helping professionals' (therapists, social
workers, literacy teachers, etc.) use puppets with
their clients.
- And we continue to help children celebrate their
birthdays with puppet fun!
In short, for nearly 30 years we have been part
of Calgary's educational and cultural scene.
We need your help now.
