Puppets on the Go

W.P. Puppet Theatre Society has a long history of offering workshops, residencies, keynotes and professional development for schools and communities. Wendy Passmore-Godfrey BFA, is our primary workshop leader; she works closely to ensure that the learning experience meets the goals and needs of the participants. She is on the roster for the Alberta Foundation for the Arts Artists in Education Grant program.

Wendy is happy to tailor the workshops to your needs. Below are samples of how puppetry has been used in numerous formats. If something similar would work for you, please contact us and we would be happy to discuss how best to accommodate your needs.

Artists in Residence

What is an 'Artist in Residence'?
An Artist in Residence is a wonderful opportunity to have an in depth artistic experience in all aspects of puppet theatre production and performance. Schools or communities typically book 1-3 weeks of time with Wendy. Together we plan a range of activities from puppet making, script writing, character development and performance that meet your goals and logistical needs.

Past participants have said:
- "The creative skills and activities were absolutely age appropriate and engaging, I think the students were challenged to think outside the box which was great to see!"

TWO RESIDENCES TO CHOOSE FROM:
1) The Tailored Residency is planned with the teachers, is specific to your schools chosen themes and curricula being taught at the time of the residence. The extra planning time is reflected in a higher cost.

2) The Keylock Residency is comprised of our most popular and successful lesson plans for each grade level. It includes a variety of puppet genres and curriculum subject links. The fee for this residency is less.

Community Workshops

We offer workshops for all sorts of community events and organizations. From Beaver groups and birthday parties to country fairs or family reunions we can design a suitable and fun puppet activity. Puppets can even provide a creative break during a conference for adults or become a more formal course at an arts retreat.

Professional Development & Student Workshops

Linking puppet experiences with education curricula has long been a feature of W.P. Puppet Theatre workshops for both student workshops and teacher professional development. Our practical puppet project ideas that connect with core and arts curricula allow teachers immediate implementation. Our student workshops incorporate both hands on creation and performance opportunities supporting multiple literacy learning areas.

Past participants said:
- "Wow! Fabulous—lots of great ideas for the classroom that are practical and yet full of 'adventure'!" (teacher)
- "I enjoyed learning all the tekneaks of being a pupeterr. Thanks so much Wendy." (student)
