Introduction to Puppetry course

Wendy is pleased to be teaching Introduction to Puppetry (DRAM 571 - S20 Directed Studies I) at the University of Calgary this spring. This is an Open Studies class with no prerequisites. The class runs Monday and Wednesday evenings from 7-9 pm, from May 20 – June 24. It is $540.00 (it should be tax deductible)

This course will provide students with an overview of the history, multi-culture and local culture of the art of puppetry, as well as hands on puppet construction and manipulation technique. It will also touch on puppet use beyond performance in the areas of education, literacy therapy and social action. The main focus of the course will be the development and performance, either independently or in a group, of a short puppet based theatre production. The show may target either children/families or adults. It could also be a parade, staged event or installation piece. The performance can be planned with a Calgary community partner or be performed independently at a public venue. Students will work with the instructor to develop a deliverable plan.

Invitation to join our Board of Directors

Puppets are always eager to volunteer for our board of directors but they just can’t get their minds around financial reports!

We therefore welcome creative and interested people, to join our Board of Directors and help us continue our work. Experience in education, social services, the arts or NGO’s is an asset but not a requirement.

We have several exciting initiatives underway including the production of our first big show for several years. The board serves mainly an advisory role with opportunities for hands on work. We meet about every two months.

If you would like to become a volunteer with this wonderful organization please contact:
