Highlights of a great year!

September: Work is completed on our new show “Rivers Running” – five hilarious stories on a water theme. The set even features a sail boat!

October: In partnership with Peter Lenton of Puffin Productions we offer our first two residencies entitled “River’s Running”. One week in Cold Lake and another at Tsuu’tina. The Just Kids Advanced Puppet Club makes some wonderful marionettes.

November: We open our new show – “Christmas with the Monsters” on a beautiful fall day, crafts, snacks and lots of fun!

December: The committee for planning “Puppet Power 2007 – Puppets as Agents of Social Change” confirms Gary Freidman from Australia as our Key note Speaker!

January: Wendy performs “Frogs in a Blue Bucket” at the Nakai Children’s Festival in Whitehorse. Just a tad cold! Calgary Puppet Club has a great workshop session with Jhan Groom on hand puppets.

February: Teaching the teachers at five conventions! Wendy’s article ‘No Strings Attached” is printed in Expression Magazine.

March: A lovely week up near Lac La Biche – teaching at Caslan School – the children have so much fun making their black light and shadow puppets.

April: The Just Kids Advanced Puppet Club makes Giant Puppets and manages to not get paint everywhere! Good for them!

May: A CAPES residency school makes superb wetlands mask body puppets using pulp paper mache and drape mache methods. We also host a thank you party for all our volunteers. Special guest Heather Moore, who is a movie costumer – gives us behind the scenes stories and clips from a couple of films she has worked on. Very interesting!

June: Wendy’s off on tour to Saskatchewan and Manitoba with “Frogs…” Hello Prairies!

Puppets as Agents of Social Change

The organizing committee is pleased to announce that we have engaged Pivotal Events to coordinate the logistics and marketing of the conference. This company brings many years of international experience as well as a passion for the arts and social issues. The committee now begins the task of selecting the speakers and workshop leaders. We have had proposals from all over the world; this year’s theme seems to resonate. We’ll also scheme on activities to make this conference truly unique and galvanizing!

Thank you, hello and good bye

At this time of year we thank our outgoing board members for their service and welcome new board members. (Although we are still looking for a treasurer)

We also thank over 40 other volunteers for helping with WPTS activities this year. We can’t do it without you!

Speaking of Muppets

Ever wonder if you’re a Kermit – or are you closer to a Miss Piggy?

Art Safety

We should all be concerned about safety in the art studio and especially when working with children – either at home or school.
