Six Short Puppet Films
"The Kay Stories" by Red Smarteez Marionettes

The Kay Stories at ‘Picture this Film Festival’
The Rozsa Center, University of Calgary
Wednesday, February 8, 2006
Screenings start at 7:00 Admission $7.50

The Kay Stories were written and produced by award winning Calgary puppet filmmakers, Brenda Whiteman and Peter Stinson of Red Smarteez Marionettes. This series of six short films feature a musical soundtrack by Cameron Falkenhagen (Sage Theatre) and were filmed in Calgary by Alberta cinematographer Patrick McLaughlin (waydowntown, Six Figures

The Kay Stories are a touching and humorous memoir, told with puppets, of the life of Kay Whiteman, a woman with a developmental disability whose determined nature and supportive family helped her enjoy a full life. The short films tell of six occasions when Kay traveled from Grande Prairie on holidays to visit her sister, Brenda, in Calgary. Most often, they would go shopping, but, when meeting Brenda's friends or new people, Kay showed a disarming wisdom that was an example to us all.

Produced with the assistance of the Canada Council for the Arts, the Alberta Foundation for the Arts and the Calgary Society of Independent Filmmakers.
