Always count on change

Wendy Passmore- Godfrey (Artistic Director and principal performer) announced this month that she had accepted a full time position as Director of Programming the Creative Kids Museum at Telus World of Science. This exciting position offers opportunities for delving into all the arts disciplines, continuing to serve the families of Calgary and promoting the value of arts for both children and community. The Museum opens in Fall 2006.

Wendy’s decision creates some changes with the operations of W.P. Puppet Theatre. This is what we know to date:

1) All existing contracts for both this year and next will be honored.
2) All collaborative work with Peter Puffin will be honored
2) Wendy stays on the Board of Directors as Founding Trustee.
3) Continue with the Puppet Power conference IF a conference coordinator can be hired.

WPTS is exploring options for the following:
1) Hiring and training puppeteer(s)
2) Hiring and training an administrator.

As stakeholders in WPTS we welcome your thoughts, proposals, questions and job applications.

WTD for Children and Young People

Last month we showcased World Theatre Day – but guess what!- on the same day – March 20th we also celebrate World Theatre Day for Children and Young People.

So here is an excerpt from the message by Wolfgang Schneider (president of ASSITEJ)

“… The child has one hundred languages”, is said by the Italian philosopher Loris Malaguzzi. “But we steal ninety-nine.” Theatre could give back by listening, singing, understanding, loving, speaking, playing and much more. Theatre does not separate the head from the body. It could be an emotional experience, an intelligent imagination, an important cultural invitation…”
