Puppet Power 2007 – Puppets as Agents for Social Change
Call for Proposals
WP Puppet Theatre Society, Calgary, Alberta, Canada presents a two day conference “Puppet Power 2007 – Puppets as Agents for Social Change” in spring 2007. We are currently looking for workshop proposals that address: current puppet usage in political and social etc. activism, puppetry’s existing and potential role in peace, health, religious, environmental and school education programs, how puppets can be used for community and organizational transformation and other similar themes. Just Kids Advanced Puppet Club Puppet
Black Light Monsters: Sunday, January 22nd, 2- 5 pm
Challenges children ages 7-12 years to build some sophisticated puppets and learn some skills in performance!
Cost: $35.00 per child – includes GST, supplies and snack.
WPTS members $30.00 per child.

The Calgary Puppet Club – for Adults
Hand Puppets: January 28th 10 am – 4 pm: Jhan Groom
One day workshops offer professional development and lots of creative fun.
Cost: $45.00 pp, Series/WPTS Members: $40.00 pp
Venue: Olympic Volunteer Centre – north end of McMahon Stadium off Crowchild Trail NW
Jhan is a multidisciplinary artist/educator with 30 years experience, currently working in Calgary integrating arts education into the classroom. She specializes in mask, myth and movement and is pursuing a Master from University of Wales in Death Studies in Anthropology. This workshop will delve into making and using Hand Puppets.

Detergent bottles, bleach bottle etc make great puppet heads, and lay in a bunch of ping pong balls – great for eyes!
Check out Value Village or another second hand store for wigs and you’ve got all you need for a wacky puppet. The feather duster with a pair of glasses can be his/her friend!
